Misconceptions of Interfacing a WMS to the ERP Host

When a distributor or retailer considers investing in a warehouse management system (WMS), it's logical to want to purchase the best solution.  However, the IT department may hold out for an inferior warehouse system offered by their enterprise resource planning (ERP) provider.  Why? 

The reason is usually straightforward:  the ERP provider, looking for additional revenue, will successfully sow fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD). They will have described difficulties and told horror stories about attempts to utilize an independent WMS.  The IT manager worries that he/she will be held accountable for any problems should they choose an independent WMS (or even worse, a total failure might end his career).  A further concern with taking on an independent WMS is that additional work would be heaped on the already overburdened IT staff.
